Our Story
Hello everyone! My name is Scheila Vontobel, and I am going to be telling you a little bit about our history.
Elefante Letrado was created in 2013 after an experience I had at home. My daughters, Valentina and Guilhermina, were using a reading platform at their school and, when they arrived home they used to run to the computer to READ. I was fascinated by their love for reading and decided to start my own platform to allow for every kid to have access to books at a lower cost in Brazil. I was not able to find any specialized programs for children learning to navigate the digital world. I immersed myself in the world of literature, gathered a high-performance team, and began the challenge of creating the first Digital Reading Platform for Elementary school students in Brazil, with an emphasis on the development of reading and comprehension skills.
Ten years later, the Elefante Letrado's collection includes thousands of books that are specially curated and developed by renowned professionals. In addition to the Portuguese version, the Elefante Letrado platform is also available in English. Elefante Letrado is bilingual! Our dozens of partner publishers have made it possible to expand this collection in order to best meet the needs of different schools. Throughout this journey, we have had an impact on more than 500,000 children, with a presence in more than 2,400 institutions across 558 Brazilian cities and 9 other countries. Our story has already been reported on by several well-known media outlets. We take our work very seriously and focus on research, data analysis, respect and passion. Our energy is reflected in the joy and satisfaction seen among our readers.
Our mission to have a positive impact on children's lives through reading is one that is extremely urgent and necessary. We are excited about our tool's potential for transformation and are committed to continue promoting education and access to reading across the world.
But why did we choose to name our platform Elefante Letrado? We chose an elephant as our mascot since this animal represents memory, one of the main pillars of reading. Who has a better memory than an elephant?
Elefante Letrado is also helping to transform children's lives through education and access to reading opportunities. This is a truly exciting and transformative journey, and we are honored to be a part of it.

Reading as a habit
The ability to read is one of the human brain's fascinating capabilities. Reading also helps strengthen our memory and capacity for reasoning by stimulating our imagination. Reading skills are essential to leading a productive and fulfilling life as well as achieving a high level of performance in all areas of knowledge.
Emotional connections
Books stimulate our curiosity and broaden our horizons. They expand our view of the world and our potential to interact with others. The bonds of friendship and interaction also increase significantly with reading fluency. By reading about the experiences of others, we are able to imagine new worlds and subjective concepts, understanding new contexts and more about ourselves. Those who read are able to expand their own world.
Innovation in the field of education
Whether through printed text or text displayed on screens, what truly matters is that schools promote literacy among children of all ages and abilities. Inclusion within the digital world is now a necessity for today's children to become developed adults in our society. These were among the basic principles behind Elefante Letrado's Reading Platform.
